What Will You Find on This Site?

  • Interaction with me! If that sounds interesting at all. I’m passionate about P90X for number of reasons and this a good medium for me to provide value by giving back to the fitness community. Feel free to ask me anything. Remember, I’m not a doctor or personal trainer so don’t expect expert medical advice or anything like that. I’ll do my best to answer every question though. If I can’t, I’ll try to find a resource and point you in the right direction. I usually respond within 24-48 hours. I’d love to hear from you!
  • My blog. This is the first blog I have ever done so you will probably see some cheesiness on it. I had friends talk me into it. It just turns out that I like doing it! My writing, spelling and grammar are not all that great but everything I say is from the heart and sincere. Unless I’m joking, then I’m not sincere.
  • Workout products. I am a Team BeachBody coach. One of the benefits I have of being a BeachBody coach is discounted BeachBody stuff. For more information on becoming a BeachBody coach, check out P90X videos.
  • Opportunity to interact with other P90X enthusiasts. According to Google Analytics, this site is visited in excess of 20,000 times a month. It’s nothing fantastic but fairly relevant. Comments have been left from P90X rookies to P90X veterans. This site has even struck up a bit of controversy. Feel free to contribute to the discussion and help answer the question, does P90X work?

P90X Workout

I divided the site into categories in an attempt to detail information about the P90X workout system, requirements, products and videos. Remember this is a work in progress, so if you see content on here that looks out of place from time to time, it’s because I am new to blogging and web design. I wish my technical skills were up to par with my P90X workout skills.

Before I started this site, I had already completed P90X Lean. For P90X newbies, P90X Lean is the version of P90X that emphasizes more on cardiovascular exercise as opposed to resistance training. My goal is to complete all three P90X workout routines (P90X Lean, P90X Classic, P90X Doubles).

P90X Reviews

This site also includes P90X reviews that go beyond exploring the basics of the P90X system.  I’ll try to provide thorough P90X reviews that delve deeply into the many aspects of this system, such as the workout products (dumbbells, pull-up bars, resistance bands, etc), the nutrition guides and the challenges you’re likely to face.

Julian,

Thanks for posting your p90x results. It’s a great motivator. I want to ask you a question. I have been working out off and on for a couple of years now. At first, I lost 10 pounds then after I stayed the same (visible). I got back on doing p90x and have been doing it for 6 weeks without any improvement. My weight and body fat stay the same as week 1. However, I only work out the strenght dvds not yoga, x stretch, and such. I work out only the Chest & Back, Back & Bicep, Legs & Back, Chest & Triceps & Back, and Arms & Shoulders. I have been struggling these last couple of years with a good workout routine. What should i do to get tone and lose by belly fat? thanks!

Hi T,

Thanks for your comment! I hope I answered some of these questions on my previous response. Regarding the belly fat question: Since there is no real way to “spot check” parts of your body, getting rid of belly fat really has to do with the foods that you are eating. What does your diet consist of? According to the P90X nutrition guide, how many calories do you need in a day? What helped me in the beginning was keeping a food log. Writing down what you eat is a huge reality check! Also, I would recommend trying Shakeology as a meal replacement. So just to recap, try following P90X according to the calendar and document what you eat. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Julian,

Thanks for the response. I will follow the phase 2 of the p90x routine (with the cardio) and see what will happen after that. I really appreciate your time and support. As for food, i eat a lot of meat for my protein intake and less carbs as possible. I eat about 4-6 times a day. I know keeping a log will help but to be honest it’s hard to keep track especially i’m working 40 hours/week and have a daughter.

Hi T,

Much respect for being able to take on a program like P90X and keeping up with work and family! I realize that there is a time commitment with P90X but I assure you that it is worth it. Not only have I changed my body forever but I feel more confident after knowing that I had the discipline to take on this challenge. I agree with taking in more protein and less carbs. I would make sure to get your servings of fruits and veggies in also. Shakeology is a good solution for people who don’t like eating their veggies (like me). Try the diet log. It’s eye opening. Keep me posted on your progress and let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Take care and good luck!

Julian,

You’re a great motivator for the P90X. I have been doing the P90X for 6 weeks now and i don’t see any improvement (visible). However, i have been doing only the workout dvds not the yoga, x stretch, and such. Just Chest and Back, Arms and Shoulder, Back and Legs, Chest, Biceps, and Shoulders, and Back and Biceps. What should i do?

Hi T,

Thanks for your comment! My best advice would be to follow the program as suggested. P90X was put together as a system to create muscle confusion within your body and to keep it guessing. This is done by having 3 weeks of resistance and cardio followed by a rest week which has cardio plus an additional rest day. Just when your body thinks it has figured it out, phase 2 introduces new workouts which continue to challenge your body and push it to the limits.

From the way you put it together, it seems you are doing only the resistance routines without the cardio and Yoga. The resistance routines are good because they help you build lean muscle (which helps burn fat) but you also need to do the cardio piece. Especially if you have not much cardio before, you should see results quickly because its new to your body.
Regarding diet, have you been eating clean? From my experience with P90X Lean, I completed the whole 90 days but I did not eat all that great. I felt great on this inside but the results on the outside were not that visible.

During P90X Classic, I stuck to the program as it was designed and ate the way I needed to. For me, the diet was the hardest part. My results were much more dramatic following the system and eating the recommended foods. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Julian

I found this via google..

I just started P90X with my wife 4 days ago. We started on the lean because we still have some fat to lose after changing our life style in January. I’ve lost 25 lbs by changing what I eat with a small caloric deficiency since January. I’ve mainly been running on the treadmill for 40 minutes. My biggest obstacles is I don’t have much in the way of muscle or strength yet and had a hard time with the shoulders and arms and am really sore… When will I notice that I’m not as sore after workouts? I can barely lift my arms lol Also, do I really need to eat all this food? We said we’d stick to the nutrition diet for a week to see how it goes and for me its just to much food after eating 1600 calories for 6 months….

Thanks!

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your comment! Congratulations on losing 25 lbs on your own efforts! I personally know how much of a challenge and life changing thing that can be. P90X is going to put your fitness into overdrive and make your body do things it never thought it could do.

As you know, soreness is a very natural part of working out. I would worry if you weren’t sore. That would basically means that you aren’t pushing hard enough. Everyone’s body is different so it will be hard to say exactly when you won’t be sore after the workouts. For me, it took right around 3 weeks for me to get used to the resistance workout and be able to add more weight and reps. That could be why each phase is broken down into 4 weeks with one being a rest week. Take a look at your diet as well. Make sure you are getting enough potassium. I would recommend you get some recovery formula as also to help with your overall recovery.

You are definitely not the first person to ask me about eating all that food! Truthfully, I followed the nutrition guide about 50% of the time but did every workout religiously. I certainly would not put myself into a position where I would force myself to eat more than I could in one sitting. Perhaps break up the individual meals and spread them throughout the day?

Thanks again for dropping by. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hello,

I did the 12 videos of P90X in sequence (did not pay attention to schedule).

First week I did videos 1-6
Second week I did videos 7-12
Third week (last week) I did 1-6 again
And this week I am on the 4th video of the 7-12

I thought they loop like that :-( So, now I know I should have done 1-6 for the first 3 weeks!!

What do I do now, should I restart from fresh or continue with the program as required with what should be the 4th week?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

Hi Cecila,

Thanks for dropping by! That’s a very interesting way to do the program to say the least! Well first off, great job for being able to go through all the workouts. Even if worked outside of sequence, getting through the routines are no easy task.

If I were you, I would restart the program and follow the schedule. The beauty of P90X it is a system that takes the guess work out of the schedule. Also, it is put together as a plan to achieve maximum results. When you follow the schedule, you will notice that there will be 3 weeks of resistance workouts with some cardio mixed in. The 4th week is the rest week with less focus on resistance training and an additional day off (or x stretch that is).

Remember that you can pick from 3 programs: P90X Lean, P90X Classic or P90X Doubles.

Which one will you choose? Thanks again for dropping by. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Yikes! I guess I did not know about the classic, lean, and double. And by looking at the sequence of videos I found, I was following the “classic.” Since I will follow your good advise of starting all over, and knowing there are 3 flavors, can you tell me more about the difference between classic, lean, and double? I did a bit of reading and felt the “lean” would be better as I do not want to get too muscular (I just want to tone my arms so they look nice on tank tops) and work on my core. Let me know, and thank you so much!!! This site is awesome!!

Hi Cecilia,

I’ll be happy to explain the differences to you

  • P90X Lean: Focuses more on cardiovascular exercise. Has 1 less resistance day than P90X Doubles or Classic. This is recommended for people who prefer more cardio over resistance.
  • P90X Classic: This is the routine that most people do. 3 weeks of resistance and cardio followed by a rest week. This is recommended as a better overall long term workout plan.
  • P90X Doubles: Is for crazy people. Just kidding! Tony says during the Bring it video that it simulates the regimen that a professional athlete would do to prepare for a season. The resistance routine mirrors P90X classic with Cardio X added to supplement your Cardio during phase 2 and 3.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Nutrition Question

Hi Julian,

Great website. My husband and I just started P90X Lean. We are in our second week. To those of you who are sore, work through it as best you can, it gets better.

Anyway, my question is about nutrition. Both my husband and I are Phase 2 Fat Shredder. It is a lot of food to eat and I am having trouble with eating it all. Also if we follow the plan, he and I eat the same amount even though he weighs more and is taller than I am.

Do you have any suggestions or thoughts that could help.
Your results are amazing. Congratulations!

Hi Catherine,

Thanks for your comment! You’re right, for those who are sore… muscle through it! I found a good article that talks about the importance of exercising through muscle soreness. Check it out here Sore muscles? Sore muscles? Don’t stop exercising.

Regarding the nutrition plan, you are not the only person who mentioned to me that they can’t eat all the food that the nutrition guide suggests. I’ve never had that issue because I love to eat! If I were you, I probably would never force myself to eat past what I could. How are your energy levels? If you don’t eat all the recommended foods in quantity, can you still push through the workout? As you know, everyone’s body is different therefore listen to what your body is telling you. Between the nutrition plan and the workouts, P90X is a great system. However, you will need to be feel flexible if any part of if brings you extreme discomfort.

If there is a significant difference in weight between you and your husband, I would double check to see what “level” (I, II, III) you should be on. This is determined by:

  • Calculating your resting metabolic rate
  • Calculating your activity burn
  • Adding the calories required for your exercise needs

All this information is on page 5 of your nutrition guide. Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck!

Ahh, its so inspiring to see this blog. Just got p90x a few days ago, cant wait to get started on this. A few months ago, I weighed 205, 5′ 10″, and now I’m down to 180 by simply watching my diet and walking/running everyday. I’m excited to take this to the next level, and get in shape and lose maybe another 20 to 25 pounds.

Thanks for posting your results, its truly motivating.

Hi Levi,

Thanks for your comment! I’m glad that this site is able to motivate you. A big part of getting through the 90 days of P90X is your ability to motivate yourself to push through when it gets hard. Sometimes when I could not find the motivation within myself to continue, I would surf the web to find something to inspire me. I would come across other P90X blogs and Youtube videos that reinforced my reasons for starting P90X in the first place. That’s also part of why this site was born, to inspire others to continue when the going gets rough. Its a way for me to give back to the fitness community and encourage those who might be struggling. Its definitely worth it in the end. You will change as a person for the better.

Congratulations on achieving those weight loss results on your own! That’s that kind of drive and determination you will need to complete P90X. Thanks again for dropping by. Good luck!

Hey, congrats! This is a great website. I`ve just finished p90x lean routine. I lost almost 30 pounds! Im 1, 80 and was like 190 lbs. and far from being an athletic guy. Now im doing the regular routine but ive gained weight instead of losing any. Is this because im gaining muscle mass? You can relate with this? Im sorry for my spelling, im from south america.

Thank you very much and keep up the great work!

Hi Brigan,

Thanks for your comment! Don’t worry about the spelling, it’s not my strong suit either. Congratulations on losing 30 pounds. Now those are great P90X results! Since P90X classic has more resistance training than P90X Lean, there is a good chance that you are gaining more muscle. The only way to verify this is by getting a body fat tester. Testing your body fat is usually a better way to track results. Since the human body is composed of around 60-65% water, your weight can fluctuate quite a bit. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck to you Brigan!

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately, I can’t tell you exactly how much weight you will lose or muscle mass you will gain. I can tell you that sticking to the diet and completing the program from start to finish; your body will change for the better. Not only will your body change but your confidence will increase as well. After 90 days, you will have created good eating and exercise habits. Exercising and eating right will become a part of your life.

As you know, results will vary from person to person. The only way to answer this for yourself is to complete the program and track your own results.

• Take pictures (day 1, day 30, day 60, day 90),
• Track your reps and weights by using the worksheets
• Get a body fat tester

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck!

I am getting P90X tomorrow. I am concerned about the pull ups I cannot do pull ups for nothing. But I have always worked out since I was in high school and I am x military but I let myself get out of shape these last two years . I’m 24 242 6’1 do you think I will have a problem with the videos due to lack of being able to do the pull ups? I still consider myself in fair shape and can work out with no problems just curious about that. Also being so young do you think my results will be fairly noticeable fast?

Thanks in Advance

Hi Cody,

Thanks for your comment! Don’t worry too much about the pull-ups. I used to stay away from pull-ups in the gym because I didn’t want to publicly humiliate myself. I didn’t start doing them until P90X because I was in the comfort of my own living room! Remember that, “struggle is nature’s way of strengthening.” So know from the start the pull-ups will be hard for you. The important thing is that you keep going and you don’t give up. Also, there is a modified technique by using a chair that you might want to consider. Tony will show you how to do this during the workouts that ask you do to pull-ups.

Your results will depend on how hard you push yourself and how closely you stick to the diet. The important thing is that you have decided to make a change. Take pictures and use the worksheets to track your results.
Let me know if you need anything else! Good luck!

Hey Julian,
I just ended week 3 yesterday, for the recovery week, can I add some weights for the excersices? In addition to P90x, I still go to the gym and wondering if I do more lifting at the gym, would it messed up the P90x program? Also, I know it will be different for everyone, if you completely follow the program(diet and excercise) how long does it take to see/notice the physical change?

Thanks and keep up the good work,

Hi Joel,

Thanks for your comment! Regarding adding weights for exercises during rest week, some weights are actually required for Core Synergistics. As far is increasing them, that is up to you! What specific workouts were you thinking about adding weights to? If you are looking to increase rest week intensity, most exercises including some of the Yoga postures have advanced forms. The rest week is designed to give your body a full week of rest so that it peaks properly after 90 days.

Regarding going to the gym in addition to P90X: That is a certainly a personal decision. However, I did try doing that in the early days of doing P90X and I found myself over training and not eating enough. I was trying to do too much over too short of a period of time. I found myself not being able to lift as heavy as I knew I was capable. Not to say that you will be over training but P90X offers quite a bit of variation and is designed to work as a plan as is. If you eat right and stick to the program, you should get good results. I believe you will change as a person as well. It forever changed my work out habits and my relationship with food.

Regarding how long does it take to see a physical change: You’re right. It is different for everyone. From my own personal experience, I didn’t see a difference in the mirror but felt my clothes fit differently after 2 weeks. That’s right. Two weeks! The best way to track this is my getting a body fat tester and taking a lot of pictures.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Whats up Julian,

My girlfriend and I are about to get our p90x in the mail tomorrow. I am posting on here bc I am worried after reading about the difficulty of this program that we may not be in shape enough for this program at this point in our physical lives. I have always been an athletic person but the last few years I have lead a pretty sedentary lifestyle along with my girlfriend. I am 5’9 and about 180 so I could lose a few pounds and I she always says she wants to trim and tone. I just want us to be able to take advantage of this wonderful program, I just hope that is possible with the condition of our conditions. Also should we buy the supplements for the workout? Do they help that much, I would like to trim and also add bulk and definition, will this aid in soreness and timeliness to get to this goal? Thanks man.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your comment! Before you begin the P90X program, it is a good idea to see where you are physically by taking the fitness test. If you don’t meet the minimum requirements, it is recommended that you take a step back and perhaps do Power 90. P90X is meant for individuals with a “reasonable” level of fitness.

With this being said, I have watched a ton of P90X transformation videos on youtube. They get me excited and inspire me to work out! I have seen lots of people who probably did not do well on the fit test but took the challenge anyway and got incredible results. I am very close to your physical dimensions. I am 5’10 and walk around at around 180lbs. If you look at my before picture, was around 215lbs. Sounds like you are in better shape than where I was! If you are 5’9, 180 lbs there is a good chance that you should be ok. But listen to your body and do what is right for you.

Regarding adding bulk and definition: There is so much variety to P90X. It incorporates resistance exercises to build muscle mass and cardiovascular workouts to shed body fat. Paying attention to the diet and nutrition plan will certainly maximize your results. This has always been my weakness! I love to eat.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to hit me up again! Thanks again for your comment and dropping by! Good luck!

Two questions for you…

I started P90X on Sunday. Tonight I’m supposed to do Day 3: Shoulders + Arms. The problem is I can still barely move my arms from Day 1 (without a lot of soreness). I really want to do the program by the book, but what do you think? Is it best to take a day off, either instead of the 7th day of rest or as an extra day off? Should I add in Cardio X or a Stretch instead (as an extra day), and do Day 3 tomorrow? Or should I just push through, ignoring how sore my arms still are from Day 1?

Also, for some reason, my hips were really sore on Day 2 (BEFORE I did Day 2′s exercise). I’m not sure why they would hurt so much after Chest + Back. My upper leg started to burn durring Ab Ripper X. That could be it. Its now Day 3 and my hips are still sore — not sure if its a muscle in there or the bone. Is this a usual place to get sore from P90X? When I say “hips”…I mean right in the front and where my legs connect to my hips, not the sides.

Thanks!

Hi Marc,

Thanks for your comment and congratulations on deciding to commit to P90X! Soreness is a very natural part of working out. I am going to quote from WebMD by saying, “Delayed onset muscle soreness is common after exercise and usually means your muscles are getting stronger.” With this being said, you are working out your body to level that is challenging it. Some people don’t push themselves hard enough. The last 3-4 reps of resistance training should be hard.

My personal recommendations about soreness have to do with your diet and what you put in your body. Remember, you body doesn’t run on exercise, it runs on food. Make sure you are eating lots of potassium; get some bananas in your diet. The P90X recover formula is also designed to help you recover faster and get better results.

If it ever gets too intense, I recommend using lighter weights and pacing yourself. P90X is a process and will gradually make you stronger.

If you want to learn more about the medical aspects of soreness, I recommend you read the following article on WebMD. Sore muscles? Don’t stop exercising.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Hi Danji,

Thanks for your comment and belated happy mother’s day! I understand life happens things get in the way of working out sometimes. What phase are you currently in program? If you were out over the weekend, that means you probably missed Legs & Back, Kenpo X and were off on Sunday anyway. During my cycles with P90X, if I missed a workout (doesn’t necessarily mean you should do it…listen to your body), I would double up the next day until I caught up. For me, I have do to things by the book and complete the entire program fully. It gives me a sense of confidence when I can start something and finish it. You could do that, or work in some Cardio X, Yoga X or Kenpo X (like during a rest week) for your next 3 workouts, then his strong again next week. I don’t think there is a right and wrong approach. From my point of view, what is most important is that you choose a healthy lifestyle and make eating right and exercise a habit. I hope this answers your question. If it doesn’t, message me back and I’ll try to take another approach. Thanks again for visiting my site. Good luck to you Danji!

Hi Dante,

Thanks for your comment and stopping by my site! Since you are a younger guy, I have to mention that I am not a fitness/medical professional and for expert advice please see a doctor or other qualified individual. With that being said, I’ll be happy to share with you my experiences and give you my opinion on your comment. Since you are an athlete, you understand that being sore is part of the process of working out and exercising. Your body is responding to the exercises that you are doing and is changing for the better. Remember to listen to your body and take care of yourself if you feel anything out of the ordinary.

Regarding the lack of soreness with your arms and shoulders: Where they already in pretty good shape to begin with? If you are working out correctly and you are sore in most places except your arms and shoulders, this could be that they are not being challenged enough. In that situation, I would either increase the repetitions or weights for individual arm and shoulder exercises. Tony Horton says that the last 3 repetitions should be hard. Keep this in mind the next time you are working your arms and shoulders.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Yo man,
you’re truly an inspiration.

I’ve restarted the program 3 times.
This is because once I’ve done a few weeks, something comes up such as a birthday and I slack off for weeks.

I’m suppose to be on phase 2, Back and Biceps, but I’ve slacked off for about 5 days. What’s your opinion? Should I restart?

Also, what if I missed 3 days (for example)? Should I continue from where I left off? Is that bad to do?

Thank you.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the comment. I’m glad the you enjoy the site! First of, don’t be discouraged by having to restart. Henry Ford said, “Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.” Take this bit of wisdom and apply it to your situation. Ask your self the hard questions and find out exactly why you were unable to complete the workouts. Be honest with yourself the write barriers down on a piece of paper and come with 3 solutions for each so you don’t repeat this behavior. Stephen Covey says to, “Begin with the end in mind.” Ask yourself, why are you doing this in the first place? You have to have really good reasons to stay committed. I would write down all the reasons why you want to complete P90X (be it looking better, being healthier, challenging your self-discipline etc..) then post this on your bathroom mirror or somewhere you can see it ever day.

Regarding when to pick back up: Once you have all of your solid reasons, start the program completely over with a new sense of self-discipline. Most of the challenges people face not being able to complete P90X are mental rather than physical. If you miss a day, just move on to the next workout for the next day. If I missed a workout, I would double up the workouts the next day to catch up. One in the morning and one at night. Listen to your body though and don’t hurt yourself.

Regarding missing 3 days: Once you have great reasons to start this program back all over, don’t let this be an option for you. No more “ifs” for you ok? You can do it. This is not just some inspirational mumbo-jumbo either. If you can get to phase 2, you have done the majority of the workouts. Also, I’m assuming you completed the fit test as well. With this being said, your body is able to handle P90X. The rest is all mental.

My challenge to you: It takes 21 days to create a habit. Knowing this, try to focus on completing phase 1 (28 days) all the way through without cutting corners. After you have done this, P90X will become a habit to you and a way of life. So focus on completing the first phase ALL THE WAY THROUGH!

Thanks again for the comment and good luck with P90X!

Hi Julian,

Great site, TONS of information and it helps that is from yourself and others who are doing the same thing that us newbies are doing…or getting ready to do. I am starting P90X on Monday. I am also starting my new life as a non-smoker that day as well so I am looking forward to taking my focus off of the bad habit and putting them into the better and more healthy habits. My only concern is since I am a smoker currently that it might take me an extra week or so to get my oxygen level up to where they need to be. I am also looking to build more lean muscle, I am 168 lbs currently and 6’1 so I have a few areas need trimming but overall I am looking for more muscle. I have never been a BEEF cake by any means so I am really excited to start the program.

Since you have done the program do you have any suggestions as far as tips or techniques that would me pack on muscle?

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the comment and I’m glad that you like the site! Congratulations on deciding to commit to P90X and to quite smoking. Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things I have ever attempted to do. Even now I struggle with it. My office consists of a bunch of 20 somethings and happy hours are quite common. For me, it is very tough not to smoke while drinking. They just go together! During P90X Classic, I was able to quit smoking for about 60 days. The sad thing is it just takes one slip up and you’re back smoking again. I’ve been reading up on electronic cigarettes to see if they are a healthy alternative. Have you ever experimented with them?

Regarding your question about packing on more muscle mass: Make sure you have something to track your body fat percentage. They have some very inexpensive solutions on Amazon if you search for “body fat testers.” For me, I noticed that I was weighing the same amount by my clothes fit much better. My posture, energy levels and overall mood improved as I went on with the program. Nutrition is very important. Make sure you are following the P90X diet guide and try the recommended supplements if feel it is right for you. During the workouts, Tony Horton recommends 8-10 reps for size, and 10-15 for lean muscle. This is a good rule of thumb. Since you are looking to pack on muscle, make sure that you use enough weight that the last 3 (of your 10) reps are challenging for you.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks again for dropping by!

Digamos se obtienen los mismos resultados al final? porque yo deseo perder peso pero tambien deseo obtener definición. Espero que cuando traduzcas este mensaje puedas entenderme y orientarme. Hi Santiago,

Thanks for your comment! I believe that P90X will help you get faster and stronger because of the variety that P90X has to offer. With soccer, there is quite a bit of sprinting, running, forward movements and lateral movements. The Plyometrics routine will help your endurance as well as your explosiveness. P90X has resistance workouts designed to work all major muscle groups of the body. The strength routines include shoulders & arms, back & biceps, Legs & back, chest & back and Chest Shoulders & Triceps. Kenpo X is a cardiovascular workout than works your “fast twitch” muscles. Lots of punching and kicking! Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

It’s no walk in the park though, you will have to be dedicated and disciplined. My advice is to write everything down. It’s exciting to see how your physical performance will improve throughout the next 90 days. Also, make sure to take plenty of pictures. Let me know if you have any other questions. Julian,
Thank you for your kind words. Beachbody is incredible and so incredibly positive. It is so great that we can inspire others to take that important step to achieve health and fitness. There is no greater feeling that you have helped turn someones life around.

I have to say that when I first became a coach I could help but wonder the same thing as you “How does Shakeology taste?” and “What is all this hype about?” so I used my 25% off discount to jump-in and give it a try and OH MY GOSH!!! I cannot say enough about it. The hype is sound and true. With all the ingredients it has you would think it would taste like any of those “green drinks”. I can tell you it does not. My husband is a Pizza guy and so not a “shake” guy. Difference is the Chocolate tastes like dessert and it is filling. I would say to you…Use your discount and purchase it. It is worth every single penny….TRUST ME.

Keep in touch and you keep up the good work!!

I’m afraid I won’t be able to help with your question about the loose skin or surgery. Definitely consult with a qualified medical professional regarding your question. Hi Vince,

Thanks for your comment! I admire your desire to commit to such an intensive program at such a young age! Since you are quite young, the first advice I would give you is to first seek the council of a medial professional to see if this system is right for you. If you are cleared for it, make sure you are able to perform the fit test. Regarding your commitment issues, lets try to answer a few questions…what do you think is holding you back? When do you find it the hardest to stay focused? Why are you considering doing P90X in the first place? When it comes to committing to anything, usually there is a certain psychology behind why you are not able to stick with it. I’ve heard that it takes 21 days to create a habit. If this is true, then making it past the first phase will be the hardest part. Perhaps that could be a goal of yours. Do you know what helps me? Quotes. They help me shape my view of the world and how I see things. “Success lies on the other side of failure.” or.. “Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.” or…”Struggle is nature’s way of strengthening.” Answer those questions for me first then we can take it from there. Thanks again for dropping by my site. Talk to you soon Vince!

Hi Julian,

Great work! Looking good. Question, i’ve sampled many different workouts before and i’m curious with this P90X. What’s the X stand for? Or the P for that matter? Will it make my genitals shrink because I don’t like that side effect. Been there done that. I’m going to start working out again after my 6 month hiatus…see you at the pools this summer!

Ah yes. Bob, always the funny guy. The X stands for extreme and not for soft core pornography. The P stands for Power (and not for soft core pornography). Regarding the shrinking genitals, I can’t gurantee that. Depends on what you had to work with in the beginning. Yes. Let’s hang out soon. Peace out.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the comment and especially your honesty! I started the smoking habit when I was around 16 trying to look cool. I’m 27 now and I haven’t totally kicked the habit. What can I say, I like to party. I have however significantly reduced my amount of smoking from a pack a day to about a pack a month. It sucks man. It’s the hardest for me in a social setting that involves alcohol. They just go together! This is a total conflict of interests when it comes to P90X and I’m sure Tony Horton would give me a good kicking if he found out. Certainly, I’m no role model…just a dude that likes fitness but happens to have some vices. I do NOT condone smoking by any means but I have been looking for healthier alternatives. Check this site out Brian and tell me what you think http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/. There are also many good reviews about this product. Here is one review to take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rncQHxnAuss

Now regarding P90X. Don’t beat yourself up for having to start over. Remember that, “failure is only so if you accept it.” Also, ask yourself… Why is this important to you? What are your reasons for doing P90X? Make sure you have solid reasons for doing P90X to push you through those times when you feel weak. Good luck Brian. Let me know if you need anything!

what i do like: Ab ripperX, core synergistics, plyometrics, shoulders & arms

what i don’t like: yoga, kenpox, cardiox (maybe because i’m used to more cardio from the classes i teach)

i haven’t tried legs & back and the others so i’ll get on that. get me INSANITY! i know for a fact that i will love that if it’s a lot of cardio. :)

And about that other youtube video…yeah…I don’t know what you are talking about. Regarding the Yoga, I know its different if you have never done it before. I can see how it would not appeal to someone who is used to fast paced cardio workouts. Tony Horton himself says that, “Yoga is the fountain of youth.” He’s like 50 years old now is still looks like a hundred and one bucks. Anyway, thanks for dropping by. Take care!

As far as the weights go, I have made so much progress with what I am doing and dont want to go backwards there. As far as diet, I am around 1500 – 1800 cal per day. Sometimes at the end of the day I am exausted and very hungry, even after dinner. This was my diet before I started P90X. It is very similar to the diet suggestions of the first section of this program (high protein low carb). Still eating very clean though. I will give the program a shot and hopfully hit my goals. Thanks for the site and motivation.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for your reply! Tony says, “do what works for you” during many of the videos. This is good advice. Listen to your body and try to understand what it is telling you. During phase 2 and 3 of the diet plan, you will notice the foods that you will be taking in are geared more towards endurance. This means more carbs than phase one. Good luck on trying the program and let me know if you have any other questions! Take care man!

I just finished my 1st week of the program. I think I am dieting a little harder than I should be. I am 195 now and hope to drop about 20 lbs after completing the P90X classic program. So far the hardest part is coordination during the exersises. Do they really get easier? Is the second harder? Also, I have been incorporating a weight routine in the evenings a couple of nights per week. This is done in conjunction with a morning P90X workout. Is this too much?

Hi Craig,

Thanks for your comment! Regarding your diet, what do you mean by you are “dieting a little harder than I should be?” You should probably stick to the Nutrition Plan of P90X. Remember that you need to eat the right amount of calories to fuel your workout. I see where you are coming from though! When I first started, I wanted to go guns blazing and starve myself. I heard somewhere that “your body runs on food not on exercise.” This is true. I found that the exercises got easier during the second and third week of each phase. The fourth week is of course the rest week where the resistance training is lesser. I found it still challenging though! The core synergisitics really kicks my butt! Regarding your weight routine during the evening; what exactly are you doing? The beauty behind P90X is that it is a plan. A plan that has worked for so many people! It takes the guess work out of working out. If you stick to the plan and eat right, you should get good results. The key is sticking to the plan! Try not to burn yourself out thought because P90X already incorporates so much variety! Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck on your Journey Craig! Keep it up!

Reply

December 1, 2009

Julian Placino

Hi Al,

Thanks for your comment! Without a doubt, the first phase was the toughest. If you have never done anything like this before, adding a workout 6 days out of the week into your daily routine will take some figuring out. Not only is it a physical commitment, but a mental and time commitment as well. It will take some planning and discipline to stick to it. Phase one was the most difficult for me because I was forcing myself to develop a habit. I’ve heard that it takes 21 days (or the number of days it will get you to your first rest week) to develop a new habit. Looking back, phase 2 and 3 were easier because the habit of doing P90X had been put into place. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi John,
This is actually my 3rd cycle of P90X. I have completed the P90X Lean, P90X Classic and I am currently on rest week for Phase 1 of P90X Doubles. I saw results within the first two weeks of P90X Lean. I couldn’t really tell in the mirror but my clothes fit a little differently. The big changes I experienced quickly were my energy levels and my ability to do normal everyday movements much easier. Those “internal” changes that happened really motivated me to keep going. In my opinion, looking good is a bi-product of being healthy. Regarding my diet, I have been eating clean since about 2005.

• Proteins: turkey, fish and chicken
• Carbohydrates: whole wheat pasta and bread
• Veggies: leafy greens like spinach
• Fruits: bananas, apples and any fruits really

There is no real science to it, I just eat good foods. I should be paying more attention to my diet so thanks for reminding me. Check out whfoods.com for a good list of healthy foods to try. Again, I am not a medical professional so if you are serious about getting on a diet plan please visit with a qualified professional. Good luck John!

Hi John,

Thanks for your comment and congratulations on deciding to start P90X! In my experience with workout routines including P90X, sometimes the soreness doesn’t show up until a few days later for some reason. Also, it may also have to do with your present fitness level. P90X is designed for people with a reasonable level of fitness. That’s why there is a fit test. In your opinion, are your arms and chest relatively strong to begin with? Perhaps you could do the recommended modified moves for more intensity next time. Diet could play a factor; eating foods like bananas that have potassium could decrease muscle soreness as well. Again, I’m not a doctor so if you have specific medical questions, please seek advice from a medical professional. Otherwise, I will be more than happy to help. Good luck on your journey!

Ben,

Thanks for your comment! I graduated from UNT and they had a pretty nice gym. Coming home for the holidays (or just when I was broke and hungry….) did present an issue to me because I didn’t have a gym membership outside of the school. Now that I think about it, P90X would have been a great solution for me as well! You can do it in your living room without expensive equipment. Two dumbbells and a pull-up bar are the only things you really need to get. You could possibly substitute the pull-up and the dumbbells with resistance bands depending on the intensity that you require. Regarding Ploymetrics (and any of the workouts really…) do what Tony says…take breaks if you need to . That’s another cool thing about working at home; less people watching you if you need to take a break! Good luck with P90X and have a great Holiday vacation!

I have been in to fitness for years. Reading about it, asking people about it, but never really doing it for real. I had tight and weak back muscles and hat to go to physical therapy. That really got me going. I have since finished and gained about 10 pounds of muscle! It felt great. I want to keep feeling like that so I am going to start p90x Monday! I don’t really want to lose that much fat though. Should I start classic or lean? Oh heres the kicker I’m 15 with these health problems… I really want to get healthy and be more fit… And just plain feel BETTER!

Hi Samuel and thanks for your post! Sorry I am just getting to this now, not sure how I missed it. Before I continue saying anything, if you have any kind of health problems, I would recommend you first see a doctor or your physical therapist before you start any rigorous program like P90X. P90X is an extreme program designed for people who are reasonably fit with no major health issues. That is why there is a preliminary fit test. Again, I am not a medical or fitness professional. I am just an average guy that has gone through P90X Classic and P90X Lean routines. I am very impressed how interested you are in physical fitness and what you are willing to do about it but I strongly recommend you first see a medical professional before you continue. Hey guys,

I just started P90X today. I am doing the “Lean” program. I have always been pretty muscular and put on muscle definition very fast so I wanted just to drop the fat first. I broke my ankle real seriously about 18 months ago and was literally laid up for 3 months. I put on about 20 pounds during that time and finally got motivated to take it off. I am 218 and my goal is 195.

I completed the first workout this morning. It was really tough and I realize how out of shape I am. The good thing is that I already feel that good tightness that comes with working out. I am looking forward to continuing. I’ll let you know how it goes.

The feeling you get after the full 90 days of completion is an awesome one. I felt like I had grown as a person because of the process I had undergone. Congratulations on your first work out as well! Core syngergistics just kind of works everything! Keep me posted on your journey with P90X. I would be more than happy to help any way I can. Good luck!

Hey Julian,

Way to go! You’ve helped inspire me to start the program back up. My problem is not that I’m overweight. It’s that I’m out of shape, and have high cholesterol. My cholesterol prevented me from getting life insurance. Starting P90X today to see what affect it has on my cholesterol.

I’ve started p90x three times and never made it past 3 weeks. Something always happens. My bands broke once, I got sick another time, and went on vacation another time. I have a hard time starting back up, I guess.
Would appreciate your encouragement.

Hi Chris,

I’m glad that I could help inspire you to take up P90X again! Starting any kind of routine exercise routine and sticking to it can be challenging because “life” happens. Just try to remind yourself why you are doing this in the first place. For me, vanity was no longer a strong enough motivator to help push me to do the workouts everyday. There was always someone who was going to be leaner or more fit which would always mess with my head. I decided to change my focus from vanity to improving my overall health and increasing my discipline. Much like what you are doing! Losing weight and looking better is a bi-product of being healthier. Here is a few things I have done to stay motivated..

- Find a good solid reason as to why you are doing this program in the first place. Make sure it is a strong enough reason to drive you when you just don’t feel like working out
- Read other people’s testimonials. This inspires me to that ordinary people just like me can achieve extraordinary results!
- Track your results. Nothing is more motivating and rewarding that seeing actual results.

If you find yourself still struggling, just remember that struggle is nature’s way of strengthening. Just keep on keeping on and bring it! Good luck with your journey!

I’m in my second week now. It’s intense. I lost an inch around my waist the first week and I’m already feeling healthier. Lots more energy. I think you’re right about reading others’ testimonials. That gets me more pumped than anything. Thanks again. Chris

That’s great news Chris! I love hearing about other people’s successes! Are you doing the lean, classic or doubles routine?

Thanks! Perhaps I should be taking lessons from you. After all, you are the certified Group X instructor!

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for your comment! 2nd round of P90X? Good for you! I am old school and having been using the worksheets to keep track of my progress. Also, I have purchased a heart rate monitor and body fat tester to make sure I stay on top of things! Where can we find this excel tracker? Thanks again for dropping by. Good luck on your second round!
