Body Types – Why Do Some People Get Ripped Faster Than Others?

Body Types and P90X

Have you ever noticed that some people seem to respond better to exercise and nutrition better than others? There are a lot of variables indeed (lifestyle, exercise regiment, diet etc.) but I’ve noticed that some people just seem to get ripped much quicker than others.  Are some people just blessed with good genetics? Another thing to consider is what body type you are. Knowing what body type you are could help you determine which BeachBody program or variation of you should adopt.

There are 3 Different Body Types:

Ectomorph: This body type is slender and typically associated with skinny persons. They have smaller joints, generally have lighter builds and have long, lean muscles. This is the guy who can eat anything and still not gain weight. On the other hand, if you are an Ectomorph and are trying to gain mass, chances are you will need to consume a massive amount of calories to make and keep your gains. Ectomorph metabolisms are generally higher. Ectomorphs should have a higher calorie diet with heavier emphasis on resistance training and moderate cardio.

Mesomorph: These body types have large frames, bone structures and are naturally athletic. This is the ideal body type for body building. Mesomorphs gain muscle and fat easier than Ectomorphs so attention to diet is very important during training. Mesomorphs typically respond best to a balanced combination of resistance and cardio workout routines.

Endomorph: This body type typically has the slowest metabolism of the 3 different body types. Due to this, Endomorphs find it difficult to lose body fat. This gives the Endomorph a round and soft exterior. People with this body type generally have a shorter and thicker physique. Diet, resistance training and an emphasis on cardio exercise are of the utmost importance for the Endomorph.

3 Different Body Types

Although many people are a combination of body types (ectomorph/mesomorph or mesomorph/endomorph), my body type is closest to that of a pure Mesomorph. This makes P90X Classic ideal for me because of the variety of resistance and cardio. To kick it up a few notches, I’ve incorporated Insanity into my P90X Classic Routine to spice up the cardio in my regiment.
