Shakeology Review

If you’re looking for an honest Shakelogy review, you’ve come to the right place. Before we talk about Shakeology, first let’s talk about nutrition.

The Importance of Nutrition

If you’ve ever researched much into the science behind workout systems, you probably know that nutrition plays an extremely important role in recovery and improvement. After all, we don’t get more fit while doing workouts; it is only after the body rebuilds our muscles bigger and stronger that we reap the benefits of our efforts. Studies by the Journal of Exercise Physiology Online have shown that getting the proper mix of nutrients after a workout can greatly aid recovery. Simply put, if you aren’t refueling your body soon after a workout, you probably aren’t appreciating the full rewards of your workout.

While the importance of post-workout nutrition is clear, just what constitutes nutrition is not. The products on the market range from sugary sports drinks with no protein to thick, gritty, awful tasting protein shakes. What is the proper mix of carbs to protein? And what about fat? How about electrolytes? Such questions are hard to answer, since just about everyone you ask will give a different answer. It becomes even more difficult when you’re trying to lose weight, as so many exercisers are. Many shakes and drinks are very high in calories and sugar, and leave users feeling bloated. The ones that aren’t tend to taste pretty bad and lack the necessary nutrients for recovery.

Shakeology Recipe

The Shakeology recipe contains over 70 healthy ingredients. I really like the fact that the shakes are caffeine free, meaning I can drink one in the evening and not have to worry about sleep. The shakes are also sweetened without any refined sugars or artificial sweeteners; all the sweetness comes from a fruit blend and Stevia, a plant extract naturally sweeter and lower in calories than cane sugar. Each shake contains 15 grams of whey, a milk protein with high bioavailability. The shakes contain a long list of vitamins and minerals which should help with maintaining ideal nutrition. There are also a variety of vegetable extracts, which provide chlorophylls and polyphenols which may help lower cholesterol. In addition, several probiotics are included in each shake. These help promote healthy digestion and regularity. Each scoop contains 3 grams of dietary fiber and only 9 grams of sugar. For comparison, even plain unsweetened yogurt generally has about 15 grams of sugar, so healthwise Shakeology really can’t be beat.

What I Like About Shakeology

There were a few aspects of the shakes that I really appreciated. When I drank one after working out, I noticed that I had a lot more energy for the rest of my day. I also felt better the next day, with noticeably less soreness than usual. When I first tried out Shakeology shakes, I was trying to drop a few pounds. What I noticed was that the shakes helped me control my appetite and drop the stubborn last few pounds that I had always struggled to get rid of. This worked by replacing a meal with a shake. I found that I was much better able to fend off the hunger cravings than I had been when just cutting out meals or eating small snacks.

Shakeology Benefits

After I noticed some of the benefits of Shakeology, I did some research to see what other people said about it. I found that many other people were saying they had lost weight while using the shakes. Another widely recognized benefit is actually lowering cholesterol. A 90 day study conducted by Beachbody found that persons  who replaced one meal a day with the shakes and worked out three times a week, and managed to drop their total cholesterol by an average of 30% and LDL (bad) cholesterol by 38%. Those drops are really impressive, especially for those of us worried about the side effects of cholesterol medications. Do you want a medical professional’s opinion? Shakeology vs Other Meal Replacements

The difference between other shakes or meal replacements and Shakeology is that these shakes are very low in sugar but still high in protein and also contain good amounts of fiber and an amazing variety of vitamins. Most shakes are either terrible tasting or contain way too much sugar, but these really surprised me. They’re low in sugar, but actually taste great. The shakes come in two flavors: Chocolate and Greenberry. The shake comes as a powder and is mixed with cold water or another beverage; it can be purchased in bulk in buckets or individually packaged in packets.

I know the health claims might be a little hard to swallow; after all, almost every health food on the market has amazing claims. What’s great about these shakes, though, is that the claims are all proven. People really did lose weight when they used them, and their cholesterol really did go way down. For my money, there isn’t a better meal replacement than Shakeology out there, and the health benefits push it over the top.

Try Shakeology for yourself! I’d love to hear your feedback.
