Inspirational Quote: “The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary.”
Phase 3 of P90X Doubles is getting a lot tougher than what I thought it was going to be. You would think Phase 2 with 3 two a day workouts would prep you for phase 3 of P90X Doubles. It’s wearing on me mentally and physically. Perhaps I’m just bitching but it’s starting to get difficult and I am falling behind on the P90X Doubles schedule. I never fell behind schedule during P90X Lean or P90X Classic. My schedule yesterday…
4:00 AM: Wake Up
4:30 AM: Cardio X
5:30 AM: Shower and get ready for work
6:30 AM: Leave for work
7:00 AM – 6:00 PM: Work
7:00 PM Arrive home and eat dinner
8:00 PM 2nd workout (Yesterday was chest shoulders and Triceps and Ab Ripper X)
9:00 PM Shower and go to bed
I’m glad that I ordered the P90X Recovery drink because I do feel that my muscles are recovering more quickly. However, P90X Doubles is becoming draining and all of a sudden a bit repetitive for me. I never thought I would say that. I have 4 more weeks of this madness.

hey julian,
My name is scott i will be starting PX90 in about 2 weeks. I wanted to ask you. is there anything i can do to prepair phyiaclly? i ask the question because i have two other friends that ordered the program but could not finish because they said they were too sore.
Hi Scott,
Thanks for your comment! Regarding getting ready for the program, how did you do on the fit test? P90X is recommended for people with a “reasonable” level of fitness. If you are not P90X ready, Tony recommends you first complete his Power 90 program first. Regarding the soreness, there really is no substitute for physical conditioning. It other words, you won’t be able to become fit over night. It is a process that takes a little bit of time. Soreness is a natural part of exercise. “Struggle is nature’s way of strengthening.” Also, you might want to see what your friends are eating. It’s always a good idea to be getting a good amount of potassium (bananas) in your system. This helps with soreness and muscle cramps. Also, I highly recommend the P90X Recovery formula also. I’m no doctor but it has really helped me with my recovery. After taking it for about 4 weeks now, I fee my body can push harder during workouts. Thanks again for your comment. Hope this helps! If it doesn’t, message me back and I’ll do my best to help you out. Good luck!
Sounds like you’re low on calories. I figured out over Christmas that my calories were too low when I started feeling like I was dragging and started losing my otherwise unlimited motivation. Hope this helps :)
Hi Kate,
Thanks for your comment! I think you are right. I believe it was Tony Horton that said, “Your body runs on food, not on exercise.” I know this is common sense, but sometimes I forget to eat enough calories. Especially with P90X doubles where the Cardio workouts are doubled. Question for you Kate; which routine of P90X did you complete? Also, what foods did you eat that helped you stay motivated? Thanks again for your comment!
Julian,
I know you feel you are struggling with this but I know you can do this. What are you trying to accomplish by completing P90X Doubles? I hear you say a lot now after you workout that some of the workouts do nothing for you now because you feel like you can blow right through them without becoming exhausted. Think back to the start of P90X Lean and how you felt during the first couple of weeks…it is similar to how you feel now right? That is how you know it is working. When you struggle and feel like you need to throw up & quit, that is when you focus on the ‘WHY’. ‘WHY’ are you doing this in the first place? You mentioned that your philosophy was to “Decide, Commit, & Succeed”. So focus on that philosophy and finish this. You are almost done! 3 more weeks is nothing compared to how many weeks you have already completed during your P90X journey. I believe in you and I know you can do this! You are already physically strong enough to complete this, so now you must focus on remaining mentally strong. Anything I can do to help you, I will. Stay Strong & Don’t Quit!
Holli,
Thanks for your comment! Your inspirational words really mean a lot to me. I think you are right that it helps to see how far I have come. Besides, Tony Horton said that P90X doubles is for Psycho’s anyway. I guess what burns me the most is that I have never fallen behind this far during P90X Lean and P90X Classic. Maybe I just got a little cocky and overconfident. To answer your question why am I doing this… I am focusing on improving my overall health. I heard Tony Horton say on a youtube video that, “You are always healthier after you exercise.” That makes sense to me. I believe that looking good is a bi-product of being healthy. Also, I am challenging my self-discipline. Often I have found myself as being able to play the part of someone successful but never really worked hard for it. That’s why I’m really big into inspirational quotes. They seem to shape my reality and help me focus on what really matters. P90X doubles is a way to prove to myself that I can achieve lofty goals if I set my mind to it. It’s a huge challenge to my self discipline. Thanks again for your comment. I truly appreciate the support.

Hey i used to be on the same boat as you. The main problem here that i see is motivation. I am doing doubles as well and am also in phase 3 so i know what you are experiencing. What may help you is having someone do it with you. As crazy as it sounds that will help you with the mental stress you are experiencing. For the physical wearing, I suggest adding five minutes of stretching to each workout (5 in beginning, 5 at cool down), and to do stretch X on your rest days. This will help slightly, but it’s better than no help.
It can also be that you are under-eating. Phase 3 requires a lot of calories.
I recommend about 2600-3000 calories. Phase 3 is endurance building and you need a lot of calories. Carbs is the key here.
Also eating a snack is very important, eat a snack every 2 hours. This helps me, maybe it might help you.
